Inkunzi Isematholeni Foundation is a non-profit organisation registered in December 2018 under the Department of Social Development in KwaZulu-Natal Province, uMgungundlovu District.  The organisation  currently focuses on offering a bespoke intervention to adolescent boys  and young men. The aim is to reduce social ills such as high rate of HIV  infections, high rate of gender-based violence as well as the rapidly  increasing rate of drug and alcohol consumption. Moreover, to create  awareness and access to information and services. The organisation is guided by Four Pillars.

FOUR ORGANISATION PILLARS

ABYM

The organisation provides skills and strengthens resilience and competencies of boys. The intervention aims at creating a safe space where they can hear other share their stories and understand that they are not alone. This gives the participants ability to unpack what is going on in their lives. The purpose is to support personal and social development through providing information and education to enhance life skills. By doing so, it increases the options available to exercise more control over their own behaviour.

MEN SUPPORT

This intervention focuses on creating an environment where men can voice out their issues that they’ve dealt with in the past. Also be open about their opinion on what manhood and masculinity is. Moreover, the organisation opens a ground of giving them an opportunity to learn about true masculinity by proving information and educating them.

PEOPLE WHO USE / INJECT DRUGS

As an organisation we strongly believe every person deserves a second chance. Therefore, this programme focuses on advocating for people who live in the streets/people who use drugs. We are advocating for their human rights, fair access to health care, shelter, daily meals and all basic needs. The execution of this programme basically creates safe space for the groups which allows opening up about their issues and requests. Moreover, we also provide psychological support.

GBV SENSITISATION & TRAINING

This intervention is to assist adolescent boys and men to make life choices that lead to their improved skills in relating with women and girls. This is executed by challenging certain gender stereotypes and behaviours that perpetuate violent behaviours toward women and girls. The focus is to guide their behaviour, enforcing understanding and appreciating differences in the opposite gender and promote healthy relationships.
